Villa Masoneria Overview

I stumbled onto Villa Masoneria during what turned out to be one of my better trips to Łódź, and honestly, it caught me off guard in the best way possible. The building sits right on Tramwajowa Street in Śródmieście – which, if you know anything about Łódź, puts you smack in the middle of everything that matters. I mean, you’re walking distance from Piotrkowska Street (that’s the main pedestrian drag where all the action happens), but you’re tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the weekend party noise that can drive you nuts in some city center hotels.

What struck me first was how the place manages to feel both historic and lived-in without trying too hard to be boutique-y, you know? The building has this solid, pre-war character that a lot of Polish hotels either ignore completely or overdo with fake vintage everything. Here, they just let the bones of the place speak for themselves. The rooms are bigger than you’d expect for a 3-star – I actually had enough space to spread out my stuff without playing Tetris with my luggage. The beds are properly firm (thank god), and the bathrooms, while not Instagram-worthy, are clean and the water pressure doesn’t make you want to cry. Small thing, but the windows actually open, which is huge if you’re like me and prefer fresh air to recycled AC when the weather’s decent.

The staff really makes the difference here, though – they’re the kind of people who remember you’re staying there and will give you actual directions instead of just pointing vaguely down the street. One of the front desk guys told me about this little pierogi place around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of those perfect local spots where you’re the only tourist. Getting around is ridiculously easy too – the tram stops are literally right there (hence the street name), and you can get to the main train station in maybe ten minutes if you need to day trip to Warsaw or Krakow. Parking was surprisingly painless, which anyone who’s driven in Polish city centers will appreciate. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury – this isn’t that kind of place. But for the price point and the location, Villa Masoneria just works. It’s the kind of hotel where you sleep well, the WiFi doesn’t cut out during your video calls, and you walk out feeling like you got good value instead of feeling like you’ve been nickel-and-dimed. If you’re planning to actually explore Łódź instead of just using it as a stopover, this is exactly where you want to be based.

  Clean and in good condition. Reasonably priced.
  
  What could be improved: No ac, so have to open windows and lots of traffic making it difficult to sleep. It is not a simple process to get to/from the station by foot and it is far from central -2km walk

  Once you've found the short cut through a gate the hotel is very close to the main railway station, though about a mile from the city centre. The rooms are fine, as is the breakfast, as a budget hotel it's very good but the decor is a little old fashioned. A good night's stay, though.
