I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Uniwersytecka Standard Studio, I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. But you know what? Sometimes the most straightforward places surprise you, and this little spot on Uniwersytecka street really grew on me during my stay in Łódź.

The location is actually pretty clever if you know the city at all. You’re right in Śródmieście, which means you can walk to most of the main sights without dealing with trams (though the tram connections are solid if you need them). I mean, Piotrkowska Street – that famous pedestrian strip everyone talks about – is maybe a 10-minute walk away. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that I really appreciated; it’s not touristy at all, just regular Łódź life happening around you. There’s a small grocery store practically next door, which saved me more than once when I needed snacks or forgot to grab toiletries.

The studio itself is exactly what it says on the tin – standard but comfortable. The space feels bigger than you’d expect, honestly, with decent natural light coming through the windows. I stayed during a pretty busy weekend and was worried about noise, but the building is surprisingly quiet. The kitchenette isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s got everything you actually need if you want to make coffee in the morning or heat up some pierogi from the market. What I really liked was how clean everything felt – not that sterile hotel clean, but genuinely well-maintained. The shower pressure was better than half the fancy places I’ve stayed at, which is saying something. Check-in was refreshingly simple too; no fuss, just keys and helpful directions to the nearest decent restaurant (which, by the way, you should definitely ask about because there are some gems hidden in this area that you’d never find on your own).

The 8.1 rating makes total sense to me after staying there. It’s not trying to be something it’s not – this is a solid, no-nonsense place to sleep in a city that’s still figuring out its tourism identity. Łódź has this interesting energy where it’s clearly transforming but hasn’t lost its authentic character yet, and somehow this studio captures that perfectly. The three-star rating feels right; you’re getting reliable comfort without paying for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. If you’re the type of traveler who spends most of your time exploring and just needs a clean, quiet base to return to, this place delivers exactly that. Plus, staying here puts you in a real neighborhood rather than some tourist bubble, which I always prefer when I’m trying to get a feel for a new city.

  Cozy apartment in the centre of Łódź. Has all you might need, fully equipped kitchen, big wardrobe and bathroom with a bathtub, which I enjoyed.
