I’ll be honest – when I first spotted Polpo Apartments B&B on Fabryczna Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the industrial-sounding address. But you know what? Sometimes the best places hide in the most unexpected corners of Łódź, and this little gem proves that point perfectly.

The thing about staying here is that you’re actually in one of the city’s most interesting transitions zones. Fabryczna runs right through an area that’s been transforming from old factory district to this cool mix of renovations and authentic Polish neighborhood life. I mean, you can literally walk to the massive Manufaktura complex in about ten minutes – that’s the old textile factory turned shopping and entertainment center that everyone talks about. But honestly, what I loved more was just wandering the quieter streets around the B&B in the early morning, watching locals heading to work and getting a real feel for how people actually live in Łódź.

The apartments themselves have this comfortable, lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel room. The owners clearly know what travelers actually need – proper hangers (not those useless hotel ones), decent water pressure, and spaces where you can actually spread out your stuff. I stayed in one of their larger units and the kitchen was genuinely functional, which came in handy since there’s a great little market just a few blocks away where you can grab fresh bread and local specialties. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you settle in because it’s those small thoughtful touches that add up. Clean towels that actually smell fresh, reliable wifi, and – this might sound minor but it’s not – windows that open properly so you can get some air circulation going.

What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re not far from the city center. The street has just enough activity to feel safe and connected, but it’s not like you’re dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM. Parking was surprisingly straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in Polish cities will tell you is no small thing. The check-in process was refreshingly personal – actual conversation about the neighborhood, recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots, that sort of thing. They mentioned this excellent pierogi place about six blocks away that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals in the city. Look, four stars might not sound glamorous, but sometimes you want comfort and authenticity over marble lobbies and overpriced minibars. This place gets that balance right.
