I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Gdańska 44 Apart, I wasn’t expecting much from the somewhat industrial-looking street. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are tucked away in these quieter corners of Łódź, and this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The building itself sits on one of those typical Polish residential streets where you’ve got a mix of pre-war architecture and newer developments. Gdańska Street isn’t exactly the tourist postcard area – it’s more where actual people live and work, which I mean, gives you a pretty authentic feel for the city. The aparthotel has this understated entrance that’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, but once you’re inside, the whole vibe shifts. The lobby’s clean and modern without trying too hard, and honestly, the staff actually seem to care about what they’re doing rather than just going through the motions.

What really won me over were the apartments themselves – they’re proper studios and one-bedrooms with actual kitchenettes that you can use (not those sad little coffee-maker setups some places try to pass off). The furniture’s IKEA-ish but comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living in a shoebox. The Wi-Fi actually works well, which sadly isn’t always a given in this part of Europe, and the heating’s reliable – crucial if you’re visiting during those brutal Polish winters. I stayed on the third floor and it was surprisingly quiet, even though you’re still in the city. Well, except for the occasional tram rumbling by, but that’s just Łódź being Łódź.

Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the main drag around Piotrkowska Street, where all the restaurants and nightlife happen. There’s a decent grocery store maybe five minutes away – Żabka, I think it was – and getting to the train station is pretty straightforward if you need to hop over to Warsaw for a day. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle since it’s street parking mostly, but the neighborhood feels safe enough that I wasn’t worried about leaving my car overnight. The whole area gets this nice morning light that filters through the trees lining the street, and there’s something oddly peaceful about having breakfast in your little kitchen while watching regular Polish life happen outside your window. It’s not luxury by any stretch, but for the price and the genuine local experience, Gdańska 44 delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable base that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not.

  What could be improved: Fatalny kontakt z wynajmującym. Odpowiedzi na zadawane pytania na poziomie ucznia szkoły podstawowej, szczególnie w kontekście pytania o możliwość wcześniejszego zameldowania (zależna od przyjazdu pociągu) chciałoby się upomnieć o czytanie ze zrozumieniem.

  The bathroom was cozy. There was coffee and tea and sugar and basics available which is very nice. The kitchen was well equiped.
  
  What could be improved: The host was very rude. I had a problem with the keys and had to call before check-out because I went outside and left the keys inside with a friend and when I came back my friend wasn't picking up the phone and I didn't know if he was sleeping or something happened, but because there is a first big door far away from the apartment door, I couldn't knock on the door for him to hear me. I just needed a way to get through the first door and called the host for help, that maybe there was a spare key for that first door. She was very bothered that I even called, and was not patient for me to explain the issue, started to speak loud saying she doesn't have spare keys for the apartments I shouldn't be asking for that. Only after listening to her scold and being not nice to me for a little while, could I explain that I only needed spare key for the first main door, not for the apartment itself, and I did not loose the key, my friend was just not picking up. The issue got resolved but it was not a nice experience. I took very long to leave this review because I don't like to leave bad reviews but unfortutnately this is not a place to feel confortable in.
  There was also a press on nail on the kitchen floor from previous guest and there was a piece of gum under one wooden part near the bed. The structure and overall furniture of the room is cheap. It was a very cheap price we paid but some things don't cost money and could have made the experience completely different.

  It is a small one-room flat with bed (in fact matress) on the upper floor with very low ceiling. The kitchen is equipped with microwave and induction oven. There is an iron and ironing desk outside the room in the corridor. Shower and toilet were clean. Kitchen was well equipped. Getting there was easy. There is a Manufactura divertissement district nearby as well as it is easy to get to Piotrokowska street with all its attractions.
  
  What could be improved: There is this step in the corridor and lights turn on exactly when You hit it. So be aware! It was summer but when I came it was raining outside and it was a bit chilly inside – while there was only one option (quite light) for cover in the bed.
