DarkHouse Overview

You know what struck me first about DarkHouse? The name actually makes perfect sense once you step inside – it’s got this moody, intimate vibe that feels more like staying at an artsy friend’s place than a typical hotel. Located right on Piotrkowska Street (locals just call it “Piotrkowska”), you’re basically planted in the heart of Łódź’s main pedestrian strip, which honestly is exactly where you want to be.

I mean, the location alone sold me on this place. You walk out the door and you’re immediately surrounded by all these converted factory spaces, quirky cafes, and street art that actually tells the story of Łódź’s industrial past. The building itself sits at number 31/72 – and yeah, that dual numbering thing confused me at first too, but it’s just how they do addresses in the Śródmieście district. What I loved was how the hotel manages to feel tucked away despite being on such a busy street. The entrance is sort of understated, which I actually prefer to those flashy hotel lobbies that scream “tourist.”

The rooms have this minimalist thing going on, but not in a cold way – more like someone who really knows design decided to strip away all the unnecessary stuff. The 7.3 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but it absolutely nails what it is trying to be. Sure, it’s a 3-star place, but honestly, I’ve stayed at supposed 4-star hotels that felt way more generic than this. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. One thing that caught my attention – the soundproofing is surprisingly good considering you’re right on Piotrkowska. I was worried about street noise, especially on weekend nights when the strip gets pretty lively, but I slept fine.

What really won me over though was how the staff seemed to actually know their city. When I asked about getting to Manufaktura shopping center, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward a taxi – he explained the tram system and mentioned which entrance to use to avoid the crowds. That’s the kind of local insight you can’t get from a chain hotel. And speaking of getting around, the main train station is walkable if you don’t mind a 15-minute stroll, though I’d probably grab a tram or taxi with heavy luggage.

The whole area comes alive at different times of day, which is something you notice when you’re staying right in the middle of it all. Mornings are quiet and perfect for coffee at one of the nearby spots, afternoons bring the shoppers and tourists, and evenings… well, let’s just say Piotrkowska knows how to party. But here’s the thing – DarkHouse feels like a calm refuge from all that energy when you need it. It’s got character without being gimmicky, and it’s comfortable without being boring. For what you pay and where you are, it’s honestly a pretty solid choice if you want to actually experience Łódź rather than just pass through it.

Lodz’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with industrial charm, perfect for creative travelers wanting to experience daily life in this artistically vibrant Polish city.

Reviews of DarkHouse

  • Overall, the stay met my expectations. – Amalkhamidov from Uzbekistan – January 3, 2025 (9/10)

The apartment is located in the heart of Łódź, right on Piotrkowska Street, making it easy to reach the city’s most popular spots. High ceilings create a spacious atmosphere.

What could be improved: However, the apartment could use minor renovations, as one of the bathroom doors was missing a lock.

  • Great place! 👍🏼 – Rysryszard from Poland – October 21, 2024 (8/10)

The place is located in a nice busy, tourist sector. Plenty of grocery stores, restaurants, and pubs.

The flat is big, it has two bedrooms, a shower, and a bathtub.

They offer you all the kitchen utensils you may need.

Oh, and it's pet friendly!! I took my dog with me.

And don't mind the entrance area, it's an old building but the place itself is of great value!

What could be improved: I am no longer in the flat and I haven't received a response about where the wi-fi router was located as it was not working so I was instructed to restart it. I managed to find it by myself and it worked great.

Other than that, this is a GREAT place.

    Thank you!!

  • Yes – Grosgale from Latvia – June 19, 2024 (10/10)

    Ok!

    What could be improved: Ok!

  • Very Good – Agneska from Lithuania – September 4, 2023 (8/10)

What could be improved: Not about the instructions how to get the keys, but about the entrance into the property yard/parking.
First of all the remote control didn't work properly. We have spend about 15min to figure how to open the main gate. I had to contact the host to explain, how it works.
The gate itself is very narrow and with wider car it would be a challenge to enter the parking.
On the other hand-the location is really good!

  • Wonderful – Thaha from United Arab Emirates – June 30, 2023 (9/10)

The nice ambience, theme and interiors of room.
Good location and best value for money..
    Two bathrooms..

What could be improved: No shower curtain and partition for the attached bath room. Surprising…
    No dress cupboard..
Outside and entrance are not clean.

  • The host was very helpful at the beginning of my stay. I was very impressed. – Joanna from United Kingdom – June 6, 2023 (6/10)

The apartment was in the heart of the city. Very close to the shopping centre Manufactura, where you can find Cinema, soft play for children, McDonald's and other restaurants. Nice and quiet place in the week.

What could be improved: I don't recommend the apartment for the weekend as Piotrkowska Street is very noisy. Music on the street reached the apartment, so my little girl and I couldn't sleep until 3 a.m. Even though we used earplugs, music vibrations didn't give us a chance to rest.
However, if you look for a music street party, the place will be perfect for you.

  • Very Good – Hajo from Poland – April 7, 2023 (8/10)

Perfect place in the centre of Łódź……

  • excelent accomodation – Jan from Czech Republic – March 6, 2023 (9/10)

    very stylish apartment

What could be improved: finding the right door and getting into the apartment felt like an escape game

  • Excellent – Anatol from Belarus – February 6, 2023 (10/10)

2 floors, bath in room, high walls, 2 bathrooms.

  • Good – Carmit from Israel – August 24, 2022 (7/10)

Fully equipped apartment in a perfect location

What could be improved: No air conditioning or fan. It was extremely hot and we couldn’t stay at daytime in the appointment. The complex was a little noisy at night and since it was hot we couldn’t close the windows.
