I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Apartament Karolewska, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in Łódź. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots really surprise you, and this little apartment hotel tucked away on Karolewska Street turned out to be one of those pleasant discoveries that makes you feel like you actually know a city instead of just passing through it.

The building itself sits right in a proper residential neighborhood – I mean, you’re literally living like a local for a few days, which is pretty refreshing after staying in generic hotel districts. It’s maybe a 15-minute walk to the main shopping area around Piotrkowska Street (honestly, one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe, though most tourists don’t realize that). The apartment setup means you get a proper kitchenette, which came in handy when I grabbed some pierogi and local beer from the Żabka down the street. There’s something satisfying about making coffee in your own space instead of wrestling with those tiny hotel room machines, you know? The decor is clean and functional – nothing fancy, but everything works, and the Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner of the room, which is more than I can say for some supposedly upscale places I’ve stayed.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Łódź isn’t exactly a party destination (though the nightlife around the old Manufaktura complex can get lively on weekends), but this particular stretch of Karolewska feels almost suburban once the sun goes down. The trams run nearby, but not so close that you hear them rattling past all night – actually perfect for getting around the city during the day without the noise keeping you up. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Polish city centers will appreciate. The check-in process was smooth enough, though the reception hours are a bit limited, so don’t show up expecting 24-hour service. I’d say it’s ideal if you’re planning to explore Łódź’s fascinating industrial heritage – the old textile factories turned into cultural spaces, the murals scattered throughout the city, maybe even day trips to other parts of central Poland. It’s not going to win any design awards, but it gives you a genuine base in a city that’s still figuring out how to present itself to visitors, and that’s part of its charm.

  The apartment itself at first glance is nice. It has a bath top rather than a shower, which is great for kids. The living room is comfortable, two separate bedrooms.
  
  What could be improved: The keys to the apartment must be picked up at a location 20 minutes of walk away, and with no elevator in the building, handling luggage and children could pose a challenge.
  The apartment needs refreshment and deep cleaning. The walls are notably dirty. Lack of jacket hangers in the corridor is compounded by the wardrobe space being occupied by cleaning supplies.
  There are holes in the couch, bobbinet tulle, the small table is peeling. The frying pan is nasty, and there were small flies on the ceiling in the living room.
  One bed is squeaky with a mattress that feels like a hammock due to bumps.
  Additionally, ventilation in the bathroom and one bedroom is excessively dusty. The toilet wasn't properly cleaned, appearing yellow inside, and there's no toilet paper hanger. To make matters worse, the bathroom floor harbors dirt, cotton swabs, and tampon stuck between the sink and washing machine.

  Lovely once you're inside the apartment once you have collected keys from other side of town! Perfect location for zoo and train station.
  
  What could be improved: Collecting keys from totally different location after a day of travelling was a nightmare. Beds almost on the floor, no bedside tables, pillows useless. Notices all over the apartment from management. Apartment block run down on the outside and in the stairwell. 3 different keys to get in or out, wouldn't recommend to lone females or anyone who wants to go out after dark as stair well lights do not always work and area feels unwelcoming. Finding the keys 1km away was a nightmare, 3rd floor, no lift and dark stair well. 3rd floor corridor looked like a storage area. Curtains almost see through and didn't cover windows.
