You know what caught me off guard about Apartament 9-te piętro? The name literally means “9th floor apartment” in Polish, and honestly, that’s exactly what you’re getting – but in the best possible way. I mean, when I first booked this place on Władysława Łokietka street, I wasn’t sure what to expect from what sounded like someone’s spare room, but this turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the guidebooks missed.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Łódź at all. You’re right in this residential neighborhood that feels authentically Polish – none of that touristy bubble stuff – but you can still walk to the city center in about fifteen minutes. There’s this little grocery store just around the corner where the elderly owner always tries to help you in broken English, and I found myself grabbing fresh bread there every morning. The building itself is one of those solid communist-era blocks that looks intimidating from the outside, but once you’re up on the ninth floor (yes, there’s an elevator, thank goodness), the views over the city are surprisingly lovely, especially at sunset when the light hits all those red rooftops.

What really sold me on this place was how it manages to feel like a proper apartment rather than a sterile hotel room. The host has clearly put thought into the details – there’s actual cookware that you’d want to use, decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a board all night. The bathroom is small but functional, with good water pressure (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in this part of Europe). I will say the walls are a bit thin – you might hear your neighbors if they’re having a particularly animated conversation – but it never bothered me enough to lose sleep over it. Plus, the whole building tends to quiet down pretty early anyway.

The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works the way it should, and there’s something refreshing about that level of no-nonsense competence. The neighborhood comes alive during the day with people heading to work or walking their dogs, and there’s this great pierogi place about three blocks down that locals actually eat at – you’ll know it because there’s usually a small line around dinner time. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but the host gives you solid advice about where to find spots, and honestly, you might not even need a car since the tram connections are decent from here.

  Mieszkanie jest kompletnie wyposażone do życia. Pozytywnym zaskoczeniem było przygotowanie dla nas wody do picia, słodyczy, przypraw itp itd. Nawet lód był w lodówce i przydał się. Jest po prostu wszystko jak u siebie. Brak Łatwo dotrzeć do innych miejsc w mieście, blisko są przystanki.
